Task Management Tip (I do NOT believe that you can manage TIME!)

The Respect-Able™ Woman Manages Her Tasks Well
Because We Get Respected For What We DO!

Last spring, in desperation, under impossible deadlines, and totally overwhelmed by everything that HAD to be done, I opened an Excel file and just listed all of the things that had to be done in one column. No order, no priorities...I just scribble down everything that came to mind.

Quickly I picked the things that had to be done TODAY and prioritized them with number one being MOST important and so on in another column.

Then I went to TOOLS, then SORT, and all tasks were arranged with the most important at the top of the list. I printed the list and got busy.

If you really want to get fancy, you can add dates and prioritize by IMPORTANCE in one column, (with 1 being HIGH) and URGENCY in the second column (with 1 being HIGH). Then, MULTIPLY column one by column two, SORT column three (which is the answer when you multiply one column by the other) and you have a numbered list that tells you exactly WHAT to do and in what order. (No, they cannot not ALL number 1’s in BOTH columns!) Add to the list and re-sort daily.

As you complete each task, just remove the numbers, maybe add the completion date, and you’ll have a list of things that you have completed --- which is nice to review on those days when you feel that you “NEVER get anything done!”
